Recap: Last year, Rhonda Henson and her husband were involved in a tragic truck wreck with a Pioneer Drilling Co. truck. The truck driver had improperly secure heavy oil field equipment and was speeding when his equipment fell onto the Henson’s Ford Explorer.
Henson's family filed the wrongful death suit after police determined negligence on the part of the company and its employees caused the truck wreck. A $16 million settlement was made between Pioneer Drilling Company and the family of Rhonda Henson, who was killed in the tragic truck wreck.
On the third day of trial, Pioneer Drilling Company decided to settle the wrongful death lawsuit filed against them and the driver of the tractor trailer, Daniel Armstrong. Rhonda Henson, 41, was killed when the load on Armstrong's truck shifted and fell onto the Ford Explorer driven by Henson. Her husband, a passenger in the vehicle, survived.
It was determined after the truck wreck that
Armstrong had a history of driving violations, including driving under
the influence and license suspensions. Armstrong admitted during trial
that he and other employees at Pioneer backdated and falsified driving
records.
The police investigating the fatal truck wreck
determined that Armstrong was speeding and had improperly secured the
load -- oil field equipment weighing over 15 tons -- causing it to fall
off onto the driver's side of the Henson vehicle.
Criminal charges have not been filed against Armstrong.
